Who Framed ROGER RABBIT
Director Robert Zemeckis framed this 1988 "cartoon noir," a masterly blend of animation and live action. Roger Rabbit (voice of Charles Fleischer) is one harried hare. A cartoon character working at Hollywood's Maroon Studios in 1947, he can't keep his mind on his work because he suspects his sultry wife, Jessica (voice of Kathleen Turner), of being unfaithful. Enter Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins), a detective who's hired to tail Jessica. There's only one problem: he can't stand Toons. "A Toon killed his brother," Eddie's girlfriend explains. So it is with reluctance that Eddie heads to Toontown—a place populated by the likes of Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse and Betty Boop. Eddie spies Jessica "playing patty-cake" with a local mogul who later turns up dead. Roger soon becomes the chief suspect. Animation director Richard Williams won a special Oscar for his work on this comic fantasy. Amy Irving provides Jessica's singing voice. (2 hrs., 15 min.)
