PIRATE TALES
aired 8/25/97 [1997-08-25]
series: PIRATE TALES (Sun., TBS) This detailed two-part documentary (which concludes next week) tries to strip the eye-patch off our romanticized vision of the high-seas bandits. The stories of gallantry and courage here are overshadowed by tales of cruelty and greed. I could have done without the graphic description of pirate torture, and Roger Daltrey's hokey hosting (in full Jolly Roger regalia). Pirates never seemed this dastardly in those old Errol Flynn movies—but then, they aren't as much fun here, either. My score: 5
