  • MEL GIBSON FILMS: (1987)
  • LETHAL WEAPON! (1987)
[ ] Movie: 1987's "Lethal Weapon" comes by its R rating honestly. Its opening scene has nudity and virtually every other scene has street-corner language and graphic violence (the most disturbing of which is a lengthy torture sequence). The plot is nothing new, either: two L.A. cops as unlike as they can be take on a bunch of big-time heroin dealers. And yet, if none of that bothers you, you will find that "Lethal Weapon" is a movie that really moves. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as the cops are excellent (especially Gibson in what is, in effect, the title role). Their chemistry--and their rapid-fire dialogue--are the film's prime appeal.
