INTRIGUE IN THE NATION'S CAPITAL. Debut: A juicy political thriller with enough plot twists to sustain suspense over the course of three nights. Adapted by Steve Sohmer from his novel, the miniseries revolves around a freshman senator from Texas named Terrence Fallon (Harry Hamlin), who's shot—on live TV—during the assassination of a Nicaraguan contra leader in Washington. At the scene, the wounded senator manages to deliver an impassioned plea on behalf of the contras that makes him famous—and, to party strategists anxious to retain control of the White House, an appealing Vice Presidential candidate. As the Fallon campaign builds momentum under the direction of his press aide and mistress (Linda Kozlowski), a veteran FBI agent (Robert Loggia) and his rookie partner (Lance Guest) launch an investigation into the assassination that unearths evidence of duplicity and cover-up. President Baker: James Whitmore. Rieker: Ronny Cox. Lou Brenner: John Mahoney. Stevie: Stephanie Kramer. O'Brien: Kenneth McMillan. Eastman: Mitchell Ryan. Chris: Jason Alexander. MacDonald: Richard Bradford. Thomas: J. Kenneth Campbell. Scott: Jon Cypher. Wyckoff: Fredric Lehne. (2 hrs.)
