NATIVE AMERICANS PRESENT THE NATIVE AMERICANS
aired 10/10/94 [1994-10-10]
A THREE-PART WORLD PREMIERE EVENT. Debut. A three-part "story of the American continent, and its original people." The documentary --an oral history that is supplemented with still, artwork and atmospheric choreography--notes on the recollections of elder leaders gathered in regional "rounds." Part 1 covers the Northwest and the Far West, and both stories are early similar. Before 1492, says one council member, New York's Mohawk Valley "might not have been the Garden of Eden. But I was reasonably close." Then came the Europeans and, notes a council member, "In their search for religious freedom, we lost ours." Narrated by Jay Harlow, a member of the Creek tribe. (120)
