The opener visits Argentina—which is "as much a nation of immigrants as the United States," says Julia. The hour blends film clips with profiles of Argentines to survey the country's development. Included are Juan Peron's ascension to power, which culminated in his election to the Presidency in 1946; and the role of his wife, Eva, "whose rise from obscure poverty added to his appeal among workers." Also examined is the violent oppression practiced during the "Dirty War" of the late '70s, the 1982 invasion of the Falkland Islands; and the impact of current President Carlos Menum. (60 min.)
