  • Debut: Ingmar Bergman wrote and directed this compelling six-part study of marriage. "Scenes from a Marriage" was originally shown on Swedish television in 1973 and, like "Husbands" in America, became the talk of the nation. It charts a relationship in decline - the strains, the discontents, the self-deceptions - of a couple married happily for 10 years; Marianne (Liv Ullmann), a 35-year-old divorce lawyer, and Johan (Erland Josephson), a 42-year-old scientist.   • clally to themselves: they have no material worries, and they agree "on all the important things." But at a dinner party, they watch their married friends Peter (Jan Malmsjo) and Katarina (Bibi Andersson) openly express contempt for each other. The scene selects Marianne, and she begins to wonder whether "there is any way that two people can live together all their lives." Ullmann introduces the dramas; each is followed by excerpts from the documentary "The World of Ingmar Bergman." (60 min.)
