Special: Send in TV's clowns. They show up on a two-hour retrospective that culls clips of satire, slapstick and sight gags from old-time and ongoing series and specials. At press time, the program was slated to spotlight Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca in "Your Show of Shows" (which ran from 1950 to 1954); Jackie Gleason and Audrey Meadows in "The Honeymooners" (1955-56); "The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show" (1950-58); Phil Silvers as Sergeant Bilko (1955-59); ghostly antics from "Topper" (1953-56); Lucille Ball on the candy-wrapping assembly line in "I Love Lucy" (1951-56); the talking horse "Mister Ed" (1961-66); "The Danny Thomas Show" (1959-64); "The Beverly Hillbillies" (1962-71); 1950s variety outings with Ed Wynn and George Gobel; and tributes to Ernie Kovacs, Jack Benny and Jimmy Durante. More recent clips salute "Diff'rent Strokes," "Benson," "Soap," "Barney Miller," "Saturday Night Live," "The Tonight Show" and "M*A*S*H." Hosts include Beatrice Arthur; Jane Curtin; and Carl Reiner and Dick Van Dyke, who stage a sketch as Shakespeare and Francis Bacon. (2 hrs.)
