    The four decades since the end of World War II are the focus of "45/85" (Sept 18, ABC), an ambitious three-hour documentary co-anchored by Ted Koppel (below) and Peter Jennings. According to executive producer Av Westin, the dominant story of that era has been the attempt by the United States "to contain world communism through military might, economic might and what you might call 'The American Way.' The track record," he says, "shows that we have succeeded. We've had some setbacks, but we haven't built any walls, our athletes haven't defected, and the level of material comfort as well as cultural freedom on this side of the fence is pretty good." Alone among the network news divisions, it's producing the all-evening blockbuster documentary, as exemplified most recently by the Sept 18 airing of the smoothly done, kaleidoscopic three-hour news special "45/85"
