The X-Files (Fri., Fox)—
The series doesn't dare say
it's based on true stories; it
is "inspired by actual docu-
mented accounts" of crimes
that have no solution...at
least not on this Earth or of
this dimension. The stories
are incredible—that is, truly
unbelievable, and that's my
problem with The X-Files.
Otherwise, it's an entertain-
ing crime drama with David
Duchovny as an FBI agent
who has a paranormal
paranoid streak and Gillian
Anderson as his doubting
partner. My score: 8
