Jodie Foster won a Best Actress Oscar for her role as a rape victim whose lifestyle precludes her quest for justice. Sarah Tobias (Foster) is a waitress who likes to drink, smoke pot and drive around with a license plate that says SKY SAD. One night, while trying to cheer up after a fight with her boyfriend, Sarah visits a bar where she meets and falls with some patrons—and in a graphically violent sequence ends up being gang-raped on a picnic machine. Deputy DA Kathryn Murphy (Kelly McGillis) is hungered in to prosecute the case and learning that Sarah's reputation would make her a poor witness, has a case on how the rape charge reduced to reckless endangerment. Enraged Sarah accuses Kathryn of letting her "change the prosecutor" herself, until she meets a witness to the assault who grows [illegible] a witness. The next day she joins another sex show tell her to be right there to cheer her on. That's when Kathryn decides to reopen the case and prosecute the guys and also stood by and cheered on the rapists.
