AARON'S WAY: Can an Amish family find acceptance, happiness—and high ratings—in the wine country of northern California? Merlin Olsen's new series, "Aaron's Way," will find out. The opener was unavailable for preview, but here's the setup: Olsen (the erstwhile Father Murphy) plays Aaron Miller, an Amish farmer from Pennsylvania whose son has left Amish society for California. There, he gets involved with (1) grapevines (2) Susannah (Kathleen York), who is going to have his child, and (3) a fatal wind-surfing accident. The Lincolnesque Aaron comes out for the memorial service and then brings his whole brood (wife and three children) along to help bring in the grapes and populate the series. While there's obviously enough room in this premise for all kinds of cross-cultural confusion, the success of the series will probably depend on your affection for Merlin Olsen. (8 PM 2) 3/9/88 1.
