MOTHER LOVE, PART 1
Host Diana Rigg introduces and stars in the
series' 11th-season opener, a riveting three-part
psychological thriller.
She plays Helena Vesey, a well-to-do, fiftyish
Londoner who continues to harbor an obsessive
hatred for Alex Vesey (David McCallum), a re-
nowned symphony conductor who long ago di-
vorced her. Alone and friendless, except for the
companionship of her cousin George (James
Grovi), Helena lives vicariously through her son,
Kit (James Wilby), a promising young barrister
who, in Part 1, introduces her to his fiancée, An-
gela (Fiona Gillies).
Helena grudgingly accepts her son's decision
to live with his new wife in their own flat, but
there's a more unsettling problem at hand. She
discovers that George—against her strongest
wishes—has maintained a friendly relationship
with Alex. Her chance discovery of George's
"disloyalty" sets the wheels in motion for a cut-
ting form of retribution. (2 hrs.)
