Bing Crosby and Liza Minnelli are the
co-hosts for this variety show, which fea-
tures production numbers by guests Marvin
Hamlisch, Joel Grey, Ben Vereen, Roy
Clark, and Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gor-
me; and film clips from past presenta-
tions of the "Bell Telephone Hour" and
the "Bell System Family Theatre."
At press time, clips were scheduled
to include performances by Maurice
Chevalier, Fred Astaire, Louis Arm-
strong, Rudolf Nureyev, Van Cliburn,
Andres Segovia, Julie Andrews, Ethel
Merman and Pablo Casals (90 min.)

Special: Liberty in America.
This documentary, still being edited at press
time, examines how freedoms in the U.S. have been
tested over the years.
The struggles of minority groups in recent
times are studied in two major segments. One
deals with the internment of Japanese-Ameri-
cans during World War II. The other traces
the civil-rights movement of the '50s and
'60s, including Martin Luther King's stirring
"I have a dream" speech—and an equally
moving interview with a black man in his
70s who describes a lynching he witnessed.
There are also interviews with screenwriters
Dalton Trumbo and Alvah Bessie, who were black-
listed during the McCarthy period; a segment with
a cross section of Americans telling what liberty
means to them; and, on a lighter note, an animated
sequence showing the early travels of the Declara-
tion of Independence.
David Brinkley is the reporter. (90 min.)

GEORGE BURNS
Special: Shades of vaudeville.
Eighty-year-old George Burns is the host
of a musical-comedy hour that recalls the
vaudeville era. His guests are Johnny Car-
son, Madeline Kahn, Walter Matthau, the Os-
mond Brothers and singer-dancer Chita
Rivera.
Still in production at press time, the hour
captures the spirit of the era in its scheduled
songs and sketches. Burns and Kahn in a
comedy routine à la Burns and Allen; Mat-
thau in a production number set to "Oh! How
I Hate to Get Up in the Morning"; the Os-
monds singing "I Can't Live a Dream"; and
Carson and Burns in a stand-up spot with a
sensual mind reader.
Continuing the theme, Burns performs
some turn-of-the-century patter songs,
which include "Good Night, Little Girl, Good
Night" ("If I Couldn't Win Ya' with All the Gin
That's in Ya', Good Night, Little Girl, Good
Night"). (60 min.)
