Debut: The feelings and experiences
of people in the Middle East are docu-
mented in this series, a joint effort by
an Arab and an Israeli producer under
the aegis of WGBH, Boston. The aim
of the series, explains executive pro-
ducer Peter McGhee, is to examine
the region's conflict "through the
eyes of those who have the most at
stake." The first program focuses on
two families—one Egyptian, the other
Israeli—who have lost sons in the Yom
Kippur War. Relatives and friends dis-
cuss their loss.

AN UNUSUAL SUMMER SERIES
Debut: A grandstand version of "Beat the Clock."
Set in various stadiums around the country, this five-
week series pits small town against small town in stunt-
filled athletic competitions. In the opener, the Burri-
sville (RI) Indians take on the Webster (Mass.) Broncos
and the Putnam (Conn.) Clippers at Putnam.
The six-member men-and-women teams vie for points in
such games as "You Bet Your Loaf" (carrying trays of bread,
players attempt to inch across greased poles while oppo-
nents try to unseat them with swinging sacks), "Yacht Club
Formal" (contestants try to don formal attire while balanc-
ing on a floating raft), and "Grand Prix" (while speeding
along a slalomlike course in a dune buggy, teams must try
to hold onto plates of jello).
In contrast to these slapstick contests, professional
sportscasters Charlie Jones and Lynn Shackelford provide a

ners with their children and grandchil-
dren in this new comedy. In the open-
ing episode, Mama is worried about
