To win the case, Rosie (Sharon Gless) must win the jury's sympathy for her client, David Gordon (Andrew Parks), who seems to killing his suffering lover. She tells them: "If we hold in common our vulnerability to the disease, we must also hold in common our compassion." After meeting with a woman (Gordana Rashovich) who got AIDS from her cheating husband, Rosie goes to confront her own unfaithful ex. She instead comes face-to-face with his lover (Preston Hunt). Meanwhile, Rosie presses her mother and sister to agree to some kind of remembrance on the anniversary of her father's death. This two-based 1990 TV-movie casts Marc Winningham as Kim Paris, who is flighty yet bright, with a thick skin and a sensitive spirit. Employed by a private-detective agency in Houston, Kim is assigned to gain the confidence of David West (Peter Gallagher), a brooding, secretive figure suspected of being involved in an unsolved double homicide. Adopting a cover personality, Kim sets out to coax the truth out of David, but winds up falling for him. Soon, their relationship develops into a heated affair that, for Kim, blurs the distinction between presence and reality.
