D. W. Griffith's superlative epic of the Civil War
is considered by many historians to be the most

not only summarized all that was known about
filmmaking, but introduced dramatic and cinema
techniques that have become the standards of
modern filmmakers.
This Collector's Edition of The Birth of a Nation was made
from a 1933 print produced under the personal supervision
of D. W. Griffith. It includes the original musical score for
the movie which was adapted by Griffith to the 24
frames-per-second running speed needed for sound.
Musical direction is by Louis F. Gottschalk with sound
supervision by Campbell MacCulloch.
