The Honeymooners was introduced in 1950 on the Dumont network's Cavalcade of Stars, the first TV series show- casing Jackie Gleason. It was conceived simply as an occasional sketch about a blustery Brooklyn bus driver named Ralph Kramden (Gleason) and his endearing wife Alice (then Pert Kelton). It remained just a sketch when Gleason moved to a CBS variety hour in 1952. But by 1955 the success of the sketches led to a half-hour series—the best sit- com ever canceled after one season. Art Carney, Jackie Gleason and Audrey Meadows In Lost Baby, Ralph finds an abandoned "in" on his bus and brings the child home to the Kramdens' dingy apartment, lovingly entertain- ing ideas of adoption in Quiz Show.
