(2 hrs). Forty-five years ago today, during World War II, a U.S. B-29 dropped an atomic bomb over Hiroshima, Japan. Ninety-two thousand people were killed or missing after an explosion equivalent to 13,000 tons of TNT. Three days later, another A-bomb was detonated over nearby Nagasaki, prompting Japan's unconditional surrender to the Allies. Without addressing the controversy over America's use of nuclear weapons, this 1990 TV-movie focuses on the immediate aftermath of the blast in Hiroshima, interweaving realistically filmed stories of suffering, anguish and the will to survive amid incredible devastation.
