Westerns: "Gunsmoke" and "Bonanza". Situation comedies: "Ozzie and Harriet," "Father Knows Best" and "I Love Lucy." Specials: Frank Sinatra, Eva Marie Saint and Paul Newman in a musical version of "Our Town"; Rosalind Russell in "Wonderful Town"; Mary Martin flying in "Peter Pan"; and Fred Astaire dancing with Barrie Chase. Variety shows: songs by Tony Bennett, Perry Como, Eydie Gorme and Steve Lawrence. Crime Dramas: "Peter Gunn" and "The Untouchables" (90 min.)

A tribute to radio's first 50 years. Host Steve Allen, aided by a host of radio personalities, uses audio and film clips to trace the medium's growth from Marconi's first wireless transmissions. A national and local look at radio history.

ALL STAR TRIBUTE TO JIMMY STEWART
Special: The Oscar-winning actor is saluted at a black-tie Hollywood party with comedy, songs and remembrances from John Wayne, Elizabeth Taylor, Henry Fonda, Carol Burnett, Shirley Jones (who does "Till There Was You"). Fred MacMurray (who plays the saxophone, accompanying Stewart's vocal of "Ragtime Cowboy Joe"), Tex Beneke and his quintet ("Chattanooga Choo Choo"), Farrah Fawcett-Majors, Rich Little (costumed as the rabbit "Harvey"), Monty Hall, Ricardo Montalban, Robin Williams and Gen. Omar Bradley. (60 min.)

AFI SALUTE TO ALFRED HITCHCOCK

Special: He began his career in England in 1920, designing title cards for silent movies. He has become, in the words of producer George Stevens Jr., "the most celebrated of the American directors." Tonight, Alfred Hitchcock receives the American Film Institute Life Achievement Award.
"Few [directors], critic Arthur Knight has written of him, 'move their cameras so daringly, frame their action so expertly, or know so well the precise moment to cut from action to reaction.' Blending this command of technique with an unusual feel for the unexpected, Alfred Hitchcock has fashioned some of Hollywood's most innovative thrillers.
This salute is scheduled to include clips from "The 39 Steps" (1935), "The Lady Vanishes" (1938), "Rebecca" (1940), "Suspicion" (1941), "Spellbound" (1945), "Notorious" (1946), "Dial 'M' for Murder" (1954), "To Catch a Thief" (1955), "Vertigo" (1958), "North by Northwest" (1959), "Psycho" (1960) and "The Birds" (1963).
Also slated are tributes from Ingrid Bergman, James Stewart, Francois Truffaut, Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh and John Houseman. (90 min.)
