Special: Honoring a movie great. Henry Fonda made his debut opposite Janet Gaynor in a 1935 romantic drama called "The Farmer Takes a Wife." Since then, he has appeared in over 75 movies, never winning an Oscar, but winning critical acclaim in such films as "Jezebel" (1938), "Young Mr. Lincoln" (1939), "Drums Along the Mohawk" (1939), "The Grapes of Wrath" (1940), "The Lady Eve" (1941), "Mister Roberts" (1955), "12 Angry Men" (1957) and "Once upon a Time in the West" (1969). Clips from those films are shown as Fonda receives the American Film Institute Life Achievement Award. Also scheduled: tributes by Fonda's daughter Jane and son Peter. Bette Davis, James Stewart, Lucille Ball, Jack Lemmon, Charlton Heston, Barbara Stanwyck, Kirk Douglas, Gregory Peck, Richard Burton, James Garner, Fred MacMurray, Marsha Mason, Dorothy McGuire and Lloyd Nolan. TRIBUTE TO "MR. TELEVISION" MILTON BERLE 8:00 2 March 26, 1978
Special: Saluting TV's favorite uncle. Milton Berle and "Texaco Star Theatre" arrived in 1948, and over the next seven years the show changed sponsors and titles. But not stars. Berle remained the one and only "Uncle Miltie," regaling America with pie-in-the-face slapstick, outrageous satire and female impersonations that never left gender in doubt. Highlighting this show are kinescopes from the era, showing Berle with Martha Raye, Frank Sinatra, Gracie Fields, and Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. There are also clips from Berle's later career, including a dramatic performance as a blackjack dealer in "Doyle Against the House," a 1961 telecast that earned him an Emmy nomination. On hand to pay tribute are 18 celebrities, including Bob Hope, Johnny Carson, Kirk Douglas, Frank Sinatra, Flip Wilson (as his character Geraldine), Lucille Ball, Don Rickles, Mario Thomas, Angie Dickinson, Joey Bishop and Gregory Peck. PEANUTS—Cartoon
YANKEE DOODLE CRICKET —Cartoon Special: Animated adventures set during the War for Independence. The main characters are the Revolutionary ancestors of the Connecticut cricket named Chester, and his friends Harry the cat and Tucker the mouse. With apologies to American history, the story tells how they helped Thomas Jefferson with the Declaration of Independence, rallied 'round Paul Revere's ride—and came to write "Yankee Doodle." This half-hour cartoon was written and directed by Oscar winner Chuck Jones. Violin solos are performed by Israel Baker.

JACK AND THE BEANSTALK "Jack and the Beanstalk," Gene Kelly produced, directed and stars in this fairy-tale favorite that combines live action with animation. Kelly plays a peddler who accompanies young Jack to the castle of a gruff cartoon giant. Songs by Sammy Cahn and James Van Heusen include "O Starry Moment," "Half Past April and a Quarter to May" and "I Sure Hate Love." Jack: Bobby Rhia. Songs by Sammy Cahn. (60 min.)

THE MUPPETS AN ALL-PUPPET COMEDY REVUE
Special: The Muppets from "Sesame Street" in a half hour reminiscent of "Laugh-in." The satire runs a broad gamut, from a movie review of "Return to the Planet of the Pigs" to a takeoff on rock bands with Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem ("I'm going to explode an atom bomb and blow a hole in your soul"). In recurring sketches ... a chef known as the Swedish Meatball gives culinary lessons in his native tongue—with Oriental subtleties; a pair called The Homicidal Maniac and the San Francisco Earthquake engage in wrestling; the four sculptured Presidents on Mt. Rushmore crack jokes; and contestants show up for the Deadly Sins Pageant, including Lust ("Kiss 'em and squeeze 'em, love 'em and leave 'em"). The show was produced by Muppets creator Jim Henson.

WINNIE the POOH and TIGGER TOO
In "It's a Mystery, Charlie Brown," Snoopy dons Sherlock Holmes duds to solve the case of Woodstock's missing nest, sparing no one the Scotland Yard treatment in his search for the neighborhood thief. Story by "Peanuts" creator Charles M. Schulz. The music was composed and performed by Vince Guaraldi. Voices: Charlie Brown: Todd Barbee. Lucy: Melanie Kohn. Linus: Stephen Shea. Sally: Lynn Mortensen. Peppermint Patty: Donna Forman. Pigpen: Thomas A. Muller.

PEANUTS IT'S ARBOR DAY, CHARLIE BROWN
Special: A new holiday cartoon with the "Peanuts" clan. It all starts when Sally Brown tells her class that Arbor Day is "the day all the ships sail into the arbor." But Sally soon learns it's a day for beautification that is celebrated by the planting of trees, and the gang decide that they must do their part. So they begin, at first with trees and then on to everything green and growable from trailing vines to vegetables. The only one left out of the excitement is Charlie Brown, who remains blissfully unaware that a veritable jungle is being sown—right in the middle of his beloved baseball field. The music for this half hour was the last score written by the late Vince Guaraldi.
