EARPLAY: The "U" of Wisconsin Extension and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
"The audience never really rejected radio drama. The performers & writers & networks simply walked away and left it. They went chasing after the new bonanza in 21-inch country. And the stations...turned up the juke box and settled down with the news until everybody came back."

JUST LIKE OLD TIMES
A very special treat is in store for fans of yesterday's radio. Ushering in Radio Month, beginning Monday, April 30 at 9:30 p.m., KBYU-FM will roll back the decades to the days of the sound effects man, live studio audiences and the 16-inch electrical transcription. Our OTR (Old Time Radio) festival will be introduced by collector Dr. P. D. Kimball of Salt Lake City, from whose vast collection we're able to draw. Then the nostalgic fun begins with the science fiction series X-Minus One (Mondays); Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy (Tuesdays); The Whistler (Wednesdays); Fred Allen and the whole Allen's Alley bunch (Thursdays); Favorite Story (Fridays); and to top it all off, the Lux Radio Theater returns to its familiar Sunday night stand. We present this OTR festival in hopes of stimulating imaginations of the listeners young and old alike. The "theater of the mind," they called it.
