299. 'Wonder Years' — most promising TV pilot since 'L.A. Law' premieres Sunday

And so, I'm not fretting the NFL. It will come on after the Super Bowl!
stand of the traditional three centers video-
tape techniques for television comedies. And
there's no laugh track. Praise be.
And like the current state of "Grummel"
on TV, "Hoop Dreams" and "Truax Place,"
"The Wonder Years" has dramatic elements.
But it is funnier than either of those shows, and
has multi-oriented.
To make a show that most closely approx-
imates "The Wonder Years" to style and love
poignant, young people will relate to his funny.
I guess you remember "A Christmas
Story," where Jean Shepherd's A Christmas
story has the same kind of witty, innocent,
nostalgic charm — not to mention the same
awful voice-over narration.
The Wonder Years (Sunday at 8:30 p.m. on
ABC) is part of like "The Mary Tyler Moore"
show. But it's interesting how and jokes.
Added: ABC is advertising Lions and Jakes.
Check out "The Wonder Years," because it
represents the last time American kids were
able to grow up with such innocence and na-
ivete. Somehow, the world became a tougher
place after that, and Americans kids have never
grown up so fast after that.
But Martins and Black have found a way to
go back and re-live those golden years through
the eyes of Kevin Arnold (Fred Sav-
age). Young people will relate to his funny,
nostalgic, especially the show
highly expressed in the narration.
What I'm trying to say here is that this is the
most promising pilot you'll see all night. Or all
week. Or maybe even all year.

suades him to play Robert Kennedy in the
school production, a role that inspires Kevin to

this, but the best thing on television Sun-
day night will come on after the Super Bowl!
It's not "The Wonder Years." Well, it'll
be hard to say. You see, it doesn't really fit
the mold of the traditional three centers video-
