Civil wars in and out of D.C. courts. This 1992 TV-docudrama recounts the case of Dr. Elizabeth Morgan (played by Bonnie Bedelia), a prominent plastic surgeon in the Washington area whose marriage to fellow physician Eric Foretich (Terence Knox) broke up about a week before the birth of their daughter Hilary, whose custody was awarded to her mother. As the film opens in the mid-1980s, Morgan seeks an injunction to curtail Foretich's visitation rights because, she contends, he is sexually abusive to Hilary. When Morgan's allegations are ruled inconclusive, she defies the court, refusing to turn over her child in a stand that becomes a cause célèbre.
