The Tanner family has been relocated as part of the witness-protection program, and ALF has spent the last six years in a maximum-security psychiatric facility honing his entrepreneurial skills. But his cushy setup is blown by a disturbed colonel (Martin Sheen) who wants to have him eliminated. A plaintive 1997 adaptation of Jack London's 1903 adventure classic about "the reign of primitive law." Although Rutger Hauer is the human star of the stately Canadian film, it's told from the point of view of Buck, a sensitive and intelligent St. Bernard-Labrador. Kidnapped from his California home, Buck is sold as a beast of burden in the Yukon, where the mistreated animal bonds with prospector John Thornton (Hauer).
