Michael Murphy is outstanding as Louganis's irascible fa- ther, and Rosemary Dunmore, despite a disconcerting resemblance to Dustin Hoffman as "Donnie," is fine as his lov- ing mother. LAW & ORDER 4/7/98 A compelling Law & Order looks at issues surrounding AIDS, right to pri- vacy and an HIV-positive man using the virus to infect as many women as possi- ble. -SPINOFF 6711. LA CAGE AUX FOLLES. (1978) w/Ivo Yannuzzi & Michel Serrault. ELLEN: SHE'S OUT. 4/30/97 Episode (Wed, ABC) Considering all the things it could have been—my, crying self-examination or just plain silly—Ellen's coming-out episode is a triumph. It's hilarious, emotional and celebrating all at once. Sending a yen for a new acquaintance (played by guest star Laura Dern), he longed for Ellen Morgan over compas- sionate, single-mindedly pursuing "non- woman sex." Later, she gently visits a gay coffeehouse. "Ellen" and yelps, "Right on! There's a lesbian sitting at you!" The episode takes gay humor, which can often have an exclusionary, insider feel, and makes it everyone's humor.
