LOUISA MAY ALCOTT'S THE INHERITANCE' (Sun., CBS) The story on which this TV-movie is based was written by Alcott when she was 17. Don't expect Little Women. The author's adolescent sensibility is reflected in Inheritance, a predictable Victorian romance rife with class warfare and deathbed confessions. Many scenes are stiff and artificial, but Tom Conti breaks through the period starch as an avuncular patriarch.

dren's story about the
power of imagination.
Liesel Matthews stars
as Sara, the privileged
daughter of a British
Army officer in 1914
India. When World War I
begins, Sara's father sends her to a Manhattan
girls school, where she captivates her school-
mates with her magical personality—and antago-
nizes the strict headmistress, Miss Minchin. How-
ever, things change when Sara's father is reported
dead: the bitter Miss Minchin banishes Sara to the
attic and makes her a servant, coldly informing
her, "You're not a princess anymore." Captain
Crewe: Liam Cunningham. Miss Minchin: Eleanor
Bron. Directed by Alfonso Cuaron. Rated G. (1:40)
