Brooks and Bancroft play Frederick and Anna Bronski, Warsaw troupers who are trooping on gamely amid the Nazi occupa- tion of their country (gamely indeed: their opening number is a rendition of "Sweet Georgia Brown" in Polish). But while the egocentric Frederick (who's "world famous in Poland") displays his virtuosity on-stage in "HIGHLIGHTS from Hamlet," the neglected An- na entertains a dashing flier named Andre Sobinski (Tim Matheson) backstage. Sobin- ski, however, also has some serious busi- ness: he's out to expose the nefarious Professor Sietski (Jose Ferrer), a Nazi mole in the Polish underground. INSPIRED BY A TRUE STORY THE GREAT ESCAPE II: The Untold Story 11/6/88 11/7/88 Movie: The conclusion of "The Great Escape II: The Untold Story." It is historical and cinematic fact that during WWII, a large contingent of Allied POWs escaped en masse from the Germans and led their jailers on a merry chase across Europe. (See 1963's "The Great Escape" for details.) It is also a matter of historical and cinematic fact that the Germans recaptured most of the escapees—and that they shot 50 of them in defiance of the Geneva Convention. The untold part of the story is that after the war ended, one of the senior escapees (a Yank in the British Army, played by Christopher Reeve) went into Allied-occupied Germany on a mission for Churchill—to bring to justice the men who murdered the 50.
