Buccaneers Masterpiece Theatre: The Buccaneers (Sun.-Tue., PBS)—Edith Wharton's novel of manners and morals among New York and London's social elite in the 1870s is lovingly adapt- ed in this splendid five-hour series. The lives of four American girls, referred to as "Buccaneers" because they "invade" England to find suitable husbands, are chronicled as they wade and then are flung into the Eng- lish aristocracy with some- times humorous, sometimes tragic, results. Well cast and lushly photographed, this epic saga is an elegant feast not to be missed.
