REMEMBERED 8/19/93

Gregory Peck, Mel
Ferrer, Billy Wilder
and others pay tribute
to a legend.

Recalling Audrey Hepburn (1929-93), whom Brian
photographer Cecil Beaton once likened to "a Madonna"
on which the paint has hardly dried."
The Belgian-born actress won an Oscar for her U.S.
movie debut in "Roman Holiday" opposite Gregory Peck,
who insisted that the virtual unknown be billed with him
above the title ("Everyone on the set was in love with
her"). Blake Edwards, who directed Hepburn in 1981's
"Breadfast at Tiffany's," remembers her reaction ("Over
my dead body!") when studio brass tried to emphasize
"Moon River," which went on to win a Best Song Oscar.
About his star's magnetism, Edwards exclaims: "The cam-
era loved her. There was no way you could photograph
her badly. She just glowed when the camera looked."
This issue blends Hepburn interviews with the rec-
ollections of her family, friends and colleagues, footage of
her UNICEF work, and clips from "Sabrina" (1954), "You
and Me" (1956), "Funny Face" (1957), "My Fair
Lady" (1964), "Two for the Road" (1967) and "Robin and
Marion" (1976). Roger Moore is the host. (1:08)
