Spielberg's War-Film Epic Just in time for Memorial Day comes "Saving Private Ryan" (DreamWorks, available now). Steven Spielberg's stunning war memorial of a movie. Tom Hanks (above) leads his men on a mission behind Nazi lines in France. Their goal: Find a private (Matt Damon) whose three brothers have already been killed in combat, and get him to safety. Hanks gives the film its emotional and moral center, but the excellent ensemble cast (including Edward Burns and Tom Sizemore) makes his performance possible. And the justly celebrated D-day sequence— an inferno of blood, guts and terror—is undiminished on the small screen.
