Natalie Cole (pictured) brings lush life to the clas-
sic songs of her father, Nat King Cole, in a con-
cert filmed in January. The program: "The Very
Thought of You"; "This Can't Be Love"; "Paper
Moon"; "Mona Lisa"; "Lush Life"; "Almost Like
Being in Love"; a Nat Cole Trio salute ("Route
66," "This Will Make You Laugh," "Straighten
Up & Fly Right"); "The Song Is Ended"; "Smile";
"That Sunday, That Summer"; "Orange Colored
Sky"; a medley of "Tenderly," "For Sentimental
Reasons" and "Autumn Leaves"; "Thou Swell";
"Unforgettable" (a "duet" with Nat); and "Ava-
lon." (60 min.)
Q Seeing Natalie Cole sing "with" her dad made me
wonder: did Nat King Cole ever have a TV show?

Harlem nights. Park Avenue dreams.
The central characters in this 1992 TV-movie are four
young black women, who, in 1939, share an apartment
and visions of a better life. By day, they hold down menial
jobs, but at night they put on the ritz and escape to the
Savoy Ballroom in upper Manhattan. There, the women
forge relationships that foster their romantic longings and
vaulting ambitions.
