Jeff Stetson's 1987 drama is based on an intriguing premise: what if there had been a meeting between Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X at the height of the civil-rights movement? Set in Malcolm X's Harlem hotel room, the drama portrays the visiting King (Jason Bernard) as "the dreamer" and Malcolm X (Dick Anthony Williams) as "the revolutionary" as it presents an overview of the major philosophical differences that drove these two men to pursue divergent paths toward black self-realization. Malcolm X attacks King's unfailingly pacifist tactics, insisting that blacks must struggle to control their own destinies. King replies: "You want to free blacks. I want to free America." Director Bill Duke ("A Raisin in the Sun") uses 1960s images that evoke the era's tensions while Stetson's dialogue points to future challenges. Rashad: Paul Benjamin. Detective: Paul W. Smith. FBI Agent: Michael Thoma. (90 min.)
