THE GREATEST ADVENTURE OF ALL:
In 1977 NBC announced the forth-coming "first full-length adult animated space fantasy ever produced for television"; the film was made in 1979. Flash Gordon, for the uninitiated, is an Olympic triple-gold medalist who makes space his domain. This film tells how it started: a State Dept. employee in Warsaw in 1939, Flash learns that Earth is threatened not only by Hitler, but also by the planet Mongo. With Dale Arden "girl reporter" and Dr. Zarkov, Nobel-prize scientist, he's off to the planet to negotiate with Ming the Merciless. Great stuff & delectable nonsense.
