THOSE SHE LEFT BEHIND 3/6/89
Gary Cole plays a father at over his head in this sensitive
drama about parental love and responsibility.
Cole plays Scott Grimes, who has been happily married
to his wife Sue (Mary Page Keller) for four years. And so
this 1989 TV movie begins, they're expecting their first
child. But Sue suddenly goes into premature labor and is
rushed to a hospital, where she gives birth to a girl then
dies from unexpected complications.
Shattered by the tragedy, Scott is ill-prepared to care
for his infant daughter whom he names Kate. For a
while, he gets some help from his visiting mother-in-law
(Colleen Dewhurst), and from a live-in domestic and day-
care center, but eventually the demands that Kate ex-
acts on Scott's time and lifestyle begin to overwhelm him.
And after Kate undergoes a medical crisis, Scott ques-
tions his fitness as a parent and painfully sets in motion
plans to give his child up for adoption.
