  • MGM: WHEN THE LION ROARS 8/31/94
A THREE-PART RETROSPECTIVE. Debut: A three-part history of the film studio that boasted "more stars than there are in the heavens." Part 1, "The Lion's Roar," encompasses the years 1924-36. During this time, an average of one film a week was made under the direction of studio chief Louis B. Mayer and production wunderkind Irving Thalberg. As narrator Patrick Stewart notes, back then MGM meant "escape, extravagance, glamour, Garbo, Gable, Crawford, Tracy, Garland" and more. They're all here in a barrage of classic film clips. (2:00)
