  • The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. 8/27/93
w/ Billy Drago; Julius Carry; Dan Gerrity; John Astin; Robert Picardo; Denise Crosby; Chris Clemenson; Kelly Rutherford; David Warner and Sheena Easton
Debut show. Bruce Campbell plays Brisco, an adventurer who takes over his dead father's career as a bounty hunter. The two-hour premiere is a bit over-long and jumbled, filled with robber barons, rockets, and an odd orb—but that should improve in one-hour shows. What's great about Brisco is its light comic touch—so light it's hard to demonstrate the show's humor just quoting a joke. My favorite gag ends with this punch line: "Existential thought doesn't hold much water out in the territories." See: You had to be there. So be there. This is a western even people who don't like westerns could love. Brisco is a hoot—and one of the best shows of fall. My score: 9

1956. The Adventures of
Brisco County Jr.
Bruce Campbell and pal in
Brisco County, a new series.
The Adventures of Brisco
County, Jr. (Fri., Fox)—
Not since Maverick have
I seen a western with such
a sense of humor. Bruce
Campbell plays Brisco, an
adventurer who takes over
his dead father's career as
a bounty hunter. The two-
hour premiere is a bit over-
long and jumbled, filled with
robber barons, rockets, and
an odd orb—but that should
improve in one-hour shows.
What's great about Brisco
is its light comic touch—so
light it's hard to demonstrate
the show's humor just quot-
ing a joke. My favorite gag
ends with this punch line:
"Existential thought doesn't
hold much water out in the
territories." See: You had
to be there. So be there.
This is a western even
people who don't like west-
erns could love. Brisco is a
hoot—and one of the best
shows of fall. My score: 9
