Salt Lake's RMT · especially · has scored high ratings with spine-tingling dramas which have starred top Broadway and TV stars · Now the network is preparing something else different. It will broadcast seven adaptations of Shakespeare plays as Mystery Theater offerings · part 13 through 25 · This means quite an editing job for the man who will adapt the dramas to radio. He is Ian Martin · a college-born · New York-raised veteran of more than 20 years of acting and writing for radio · He will be risking the wrath of Shakespeare purists in his adaptations. The Shakespeare dramas will not be presented under their original titles. The old lines will remain intact · but the stories were cut to 35 minutes for the time limit of the program. Also · parts of the Shakespeare dialogue have been rewritten · The first show will be titled "Murder Most Foul · " which is more familiar as "Macbeth." The second drama · "Julius Caesar · " will be called "The Assassination · " and "Hamlet" will be presented as Long Live the King · the King is Dead · Martin said that although the radio plays will be adaptations · "all the familiar quotes are in there. So they won't be exact words -- and the actors might lump at this -- but basically it's all right." He said that the stories are good and should be heard. "While I have the profoundest respect for Shakespeare · " Martin said · "he is entitled to be understood.
